Hi, we have the internet at my workplace, I want to get the service to a computer lab, the lab computer should be able to the share the folders and printers on the LAB network, this is working already, now; I need to get the internet to the lab from the main network ( OFFICE) with no access to OFFICE’s folders, can I do that without a server or a domain controller, with a switch only? I tried to use 2 ethernet cards on a computer so it gets the service from OFFICE and applies it to the LAB switch, but I had a problem with addressing them, can anyone help me???

OFFICE IP range starts with192.168.0.1
LAB IP range starts with 192.168.1.1

I need to know if there are differences between connection speed for computers plugged straight into the router and those that are plugged into the switch.

3 of the computers are connected to the remaining 3 ports on the router, and 3 others are connected to the switch. Which computer (or group of computers) will generally return the highest connection speed, or is there no difference at all??

My problem: Whenever i shut down my laptop for a long period of time, say overnight, i cant connect to the internet until i restart my computer. It’s really annothing to have to restart my computer everyday. When i try to turn on wireless networking by flicking the switch at the front of my laptop, it says “No Device” on the screen. However, if i put it to sleep or shut down my computer for a short time, like 1 hour, it works without restarting the computer. What’s causing the problem and how can i fix it?

I want to have a Java-based website or two. There are two options for me. Either get a dedicated server from a hosting company (I have one in mind), or run a web server from my appartment. The hosting people seem to be unable to tell me too much. They say “you get 100Mbps”, but it seems that this is the connection “at the switch port” (maybe from the server to the switch), so I don’t know what this number really means. I checked out several ISPs such as Comcast, AT&T, Verizon. It seems that a regular T1 is about 1.5 Mbps. From what I got from the Wikipedia, these are 24 voice channels. Each one is 64 Kbps. What does that mean? Why would I need 24 channels? Is this faster than what I have right now (regular cable) if I have only one computer running with my web server on it? How does a T1 compare to what the hosting company offers. The connection speed that my coputer shows me is 100Mbps. Probably this is Ethernet connection, though. What are all these connection speeds? I have two computers, and I have run out of ports on my little switch. So i plan to install a 2nd ethernet card in a PCI slot on one of them. then use a patch cable to connect them. So that one of the PCs connects to the switch, and then the other ethernet card connects the two computers. allowing one of them to use the internet through the other. will this work? kind of like bridge them together?
well the thing is i have the extra card and the crossover cable ready to go. so i wouldn’t have to spend any money.
