So I recently found a linksys wireless adaptor, and the vet office about 200 ft from my house has a wifi hotspot, I hooked it up and I literally getting 300kbps, and its been about 2 weeks and when I tried to install a printer driver, I get something like 500bytes per second…WTF DIAL UP IS FASTER!!!!!!!!!! How do I salvage this back to 300kbps? (No they have not blocked my connection, or put up a firewall to block my adaptor)The Linksys adaptor is not malfunctioning or anything like that, and is installed correctly, and is also is a stable place, where Wifi is strongest.
Well I went onto speedtest.net the other day (when it was still good) and it had about 3000kb download speed and 1500kb upload speed, now its 172kb download speed, the upload speed is still the same.

I have a wireless modem at my house. My pc, which is not Wifi enabled, is connected to it via cable, while my laptop is connected to it via Wifi. Now, is there any way i can connect both the computers for file transfer, gaming, using the printer connected to the pc (again, not wireless) and stuff like that?

The desktop has XP pro and is connected to the internet via a ethernet cable to the wireless router.

My laptop has Windows Vista home edition and is securely (WEP 128 bit) connected to the internet via the wireless router.
My printer is connected to my desktop.
I would like to access the folders and files on my desktop from my laptop via the wifi router. If anyone could walk me through this ordeal that I am going through, I would really appreciate it.

Thanks a lot.

I want to get the external IP for my network printer so I can print away from home. Every thing i have done though, has given me the internal IP. What do I do to get the external IP?

I have an HP C7200 WiFi and Ethernet. I run it off WiFi.

I would also like to point out im behind a router, but im not sure if that matters for this.

So i have had my laptop for almost 3 month now and i need a printer. I take my laptop on the go with me alot, now my question is….. Will the constant plugging and unplugging of the printer to the laptop cause any problems or confusion to either device?
My house is not set up wireless yet (very soon though), so if i buy a WiFi printer does it need a network or can it sync to my laptop directly with no network?
Would you recommend direct connection over wireless?
Thank you all in advance.

Hi guys, thanks in advance for your useful answers. =P

Anyhow, I work for a start-up company, and for the last several months, we’ve been making quite good on revenue, and I see it fit to start upgrading our hardware and network. we’re currently working off a rather jurassic set-up: DSL modem hooked to a hub, which is then connected to a server, and the rest of us hook up to the hub (4 of us only so far, but we plan on expanding to 10 before the end of the year).

Since we’re very much mobile, i was thinking on replacing our nineteen four-gotten era PC’s with laptops. and since we’re going with laptops, i was thinking we could go WiFi instead of cables. also, our current set-up is that we’re all just hooked on the net - we’re not networked in any way.

So, since we need a server anyway (is this correct? any wi-fi router needs a server of some sort?), i wanted us to be on in a LAN so that we all can share one printer.

What do we need to set this up? also, can a not-so-techie guy pull this off, or do we need to hire/contract a network specialist?

Thanks!!

I am going to be getting a laptop for college, somewhere in the relm of $500-700, a wireless mouse and printer/scanner/copier. What else do I need for it? Will I need a special card for connecting to wifi? I don’t want to spend a lot and buy a lot of fancy stuff I just need the basic necessary extras, but I am not sure what those are.
